As you may have noticed, voiceover rates vary widely, due to several factors:
– The scope of the recordings distribution (local, national, international)
– The type of project and its length (corporate, advertising, e-learning, documentary, etc.)
– The desired duration of the broadcast rights
– The reputation of the advertiser or client
– Any technical constraints of the project
Although there are no set rates in this industry, pricing is largely based on the BSF* (basic studio fee) chosen by the voice actor. Rates typically range from 200 to 300 euros.
You may find lower prices, which reveal several things:
– The person is not familiar with standard rates
– They are doing this as a side job or even as a hobby
– They are undercutting prices to compensate for the fact that the quality of the service will be subpar
(They think that voice-over services should be sold at a discount when you’re just starting out)
– It’s AI, and despite a lower initial cost, you could lose out elsewhere « in credibility, consistency, and sometimes… brand image » as my colleague Estelle Hubert puts it so well in her blog, and poor communication can be very costly. In any case, this does not bode well for your project.
